What goes into every candle

Beautiful to look at, gentle to burn.

Natural waxes

Premium beeswax, soy wax and coconut wax. Authentic raw materials only.

Pure essential oils

We only use pure essential oils made for candles, never cheap fillers.

Kind to sensitive noses

Coconut wax candles suit people who are allergic to fragrance oils or prefer to avoid them.

Smokeless burn

A clean flame that won't blacken your walls or your glass.

Zero fragrance on request

Love the look but not the scent? Ask for a completely unscented candle.

Handmade at home

Every petal and leaf is poured and finished by hand, one candle at a time.

Burn.Enjoy.Reuse.

We hate waste. Around 90% of our containers are made to live a second life in your home once the candle is done: as a planter, a storage jar, a dessert bowl or a pen stand.

That's why we pick sturdy, good-quality containers:

  • Borosil glass
  • Nestasia glass
  • Waste-free coconut shells
  • Terracotta

Candle care

How to use your candle

A few simple steps for a clean, even burn and the best scent.

Trim the wick

Before every burn, trim cotton wicks to about 5 mm and wooden wicks to about 3 mm. A long wick smokes and burns unevenly.

Make the first burn count

Let the melted wax reach the edges, about 1 hour for every 2.5 cm of width. This stops tunnelling.

Light all wicks together

On multi-wick candles, light every wick so the wax melts evenly.

Give the scent time

Fragrance comes from the melted pool, so it builds after 30 to 60 minutes.

Match candle to room

A small candle suits a bedroom or bathroom. Big rooms, open windows, fans or AC can make the scent hard to notice.

Burn 3 to 4 hours

Burn for up to 3 to 4 hours at a time, then let it cool fully before relighting.

Frosting is normal

Soy and coconut wax can form a white, crystal-like layer. It is natural and does not affect the burn or scent.

Stop at 1 cm

Put the candle out for good when about 1 cm of wax is left.

Safety precautions

Please read before lighting.

Never leave it unattended

Put it out before you sleep or leave the room.

Away from children and pets

Some candles look like drinks or desserts and are not edible. Some essential oils can harm cats and dogs, so keep them out while it is lit.

Use a safe, flat surface

Keep it on a heat-safe surface, away from curtains, paper and anything that can catch fire.

Containers get hot

Do not touch or move glass, brass, ceramic or tin while lit or until cool. In coconut shells, never let the flame reach the shell edge.

Remove decorations

Take out dried flowers, fruit, shells or crystals near the wick before lighting.

Put out gently

Use a snuffer or dip the wick. Never use water.

What is in your candle

Jar candles are made with coconut and soy wax. Sculpted flowers, Buddhas and shells contain some paraffin wax so they hold their shape.

Keep using your container

Finished your candle? Order a sand wax refill pack from us separately. It comes with a wick: pour the wax granules into your jar, place the wick and light it again.

Pink peony candle in a ceramic bowl

Hi, I'm Asha

I pour candles at home in Pune, with three cats, Kaju, Kiki and Kanha, keeping a close eye on every batch. I've always fed the strays in my neighbourhood, and they're a big part of why Luminara exists.

Luminara brings those two loves together. I make each candle by hand, in small batches, with materials I'd happily use in my own home. Then half of the profit goes straight back to the animals, through local feeding and animal welfare NGOs in Pune.
